I might look into this. I have a 101 model and love it, but it doesn't
measure my heartbeat. What I want to be able to do is wear it as a regular
watch and not have the battery drained when not specifically desiring
G.P.S.

A Tireless Partner for Workouts, Perched on a Wrist
By JOHN BIGGS

Like its forebears, the Garmin Forerunner 405 is a G.P.S.-enabled
watch with an abundance of training features to keep runners and
bikers motivated.

Since it's almost always more fun to run with a friend, the
Forerunner offers a virtual partner -- a nagging and tireless system
that resides on your wrist.

The watch keeps track of pace and distance and even allows you to
pick up the pace with just a tap or swipe of the touch-sensitive
bezel.

The new model also works with Garmin's optional heart-rate monitor
and its foot cadence sensor for indoor runs.

It comes in black and green and, unlike the earlier, bulkier
Forerunner models, it looks stylish enough to be worn off the track.

Once you arrive home after a workout, wireless ANT+Sport technology
beams your workout data to your computer. Runners can plan routes,
set goals and track progress online.

The watch will be available next month for $300. While it is no
substitute for the chit-chat of a favorite running partner, this
high-tech watch may just keep your mind focused on the run instead
of office gossip.
