Rich knowledge of the past confers, with the proper heuristics, rich
knowledge of the future. Paul Saffo embodies that.

"Embracing Uncertainty: the Secret to Effective Forecasting," Paul
Saffo, Cowell Theater, Fort Mason, San Francisco, 7pm, TONIGHT,
January 11. The lecture starts promptly at 7:30pm. Admission is free
(a $10 donation is always welcome, not required).

Note: There will be a reception at The Long Now Museum and Store
following the talk, just 70 yards from the Cowell Theater, in Building
"A" at Fort Mason, right next to Greens Restaurant.

This is one of a monthly series of Seminars About Long-term Thinking
(SALT) organized by The Long Now Foundation.

Message from Rick Prelinger about contributing to his SALT presenation
next Dec. 19, titled "Lost Landscapes of San Francisco":

If you have material that might find a place in the next "Lost
Landscapes of San Francisco" show or in our broader collection,
we'd love to hear from you. Quite frequently we can cover the cost
of transferring film to videotape and making DVDs, so that the
material becomes newly accessible and can take on a new life.

Fundamentally we are interested in all kinds of film that have
long-term evidentiary value, which means especially home movies,
amateur film, industrial and advertising film, and sometimes
educational film and documentary. We don't do anything with
feature films -- others are taking care of them.

We can be reached at [5]rick at archive.org

You can find a glorious sampling of Rick's historic film material
   [6]here at the Internet Archive.
