[I realize that this is not of much interest for those on this
newsgroup outside of New York -- please forgive the intrusion but I
couldn't come up with a much better way to find interested people.]

After many years of threatening to do it, I'm finally about to start
up a "Nanosystems" reading group in New York City.

The group is intended to be a participant-run introductory class on
molecular manufacturing. "Nanosystems" is a bit old at this point, but
it remains the seminal work in the area, and I think this will be a
great way for interested people to learn more about the topic.

Every week, we'll read a section of Eric Drexler's "Nanosystems" on
our own and then meet to have a group discussion of the material. The
time and location for the meetings is not yet set, but I'm presuming
they will be each weekend somewhere in Manhattan.

If you want to get involved, it would be best to have at least a
basic background in chemistry, physics and computer science. (I
reserve the right to screen participants.)

(I'm open to ideas on how we might meet electronically, so that people
outside of the NYC area could get involved. I'm not very sanguine
about that -- the technology doesn't seem to be good enough yet -- but
if you know of a good enough VoIP teleconference and whiteboard system
I'm willing to be persuaded.)

If you are interested in participating, please send me email with the
words ``"Nanosystems" reading group'' in the subject, along with a bit
of background on yourself.
