   ***APOLOGIES FOR RECEIVING MULTIPLE COPIES***

   Call For Papers
Learning and Intelligent OptimizatioN Conference - LION (II) 2007.
   December 8-13, 2007 - Trento, Italy.

   [1]http://www.intelligent-optimization.org/LION2007bis

Building on the success of the first LION meeting in February, 2007,
   the LION II
conference aims at bringing together experts actively engaged in
   research at the
intersection of machine learning, artificial intelligence,
   mathematical
programming, and algorithm analysis to discuss novel approaches to
   understanding
and solving challenging optimization problems. The conference program
   will
consist of plenary presentations, introductory and advanced tutorials,
   technical
presentations, and discussion sessions. Authors of all accepted
   original
presentations will be invited to submit their work to a conference
post-proceedings volume. Additionally, a special journal issue
   dedicated to
intelligent optimization will follow publication of the post-
   proceedings volume.
The publication outlets for both the post-proceedings volume and
   journal special
   issue are currently under negotiation.

Please see the conference web site for full and up-to-date
   information.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
   - Stochastic local search methods and meta-heuristics
   - Reactive search (online self-tuning methods)
   - Supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning applied to
   heuristic search
   - Hybridizations of constraint and mathematical programming with
   meta-heuristics
   - Memetic algorithms and evolutionary / local search hybrids
   - Memory-based optimization
   - Model-based meta-heuristics
   - Prohibition-based methods (tabu search)
   - Penalty-based methods and dynamic local search
   - Variable neighborhood search
   - Evolutionary algorithms and swarm intelligence methods
   - Adaptation of discrete optimization methods to continuous
   optimization problems
   - Algorithm portfolios and racing algorithms
   - Experimental analysis and modeling of algorithms

High-quality scientific contributions to these topics are solicited,
   in addition
to advanced case studies from interesting, high-impact application
   areas. We also
welcome proposals for advanced tutorial presentations. We will accept
   submissions
   in the following formats:
   - Original novel and unpublished work (max. 12 pages).
   - Manuscripts that have recently been accepted for publication or
   appeared within
the last 6 months in a peer-reviewed journal or which are currently
   under
      review (max. 12 pages).
   - A statement of interest / position statement / extended abstract
   (max. 2 pages).
   - Tutorial proposals (max. 1 page).

Each submission will be evaluated according to its relevance to the
   meeting,
   novelty, technical quality, and presentation.

Statements of interests, position statements, and extended abstracts
   will not
appear in the conference post-proceedings volume. All submissions will
   appear in
informal proceedings, to be distributed at the conference.

Submissions will be handled according to the following schedule:

September 15, 2007: (Hard) Deadline for submissions.
November 10, 2007: Notification of acceptance.
January 31: Deadline for post-proceedings submissions.
